Never too old to hope for a son

Kalapati,43

DADELDHURA, AUG 19 -
An octogenarian of Chamsal in Ganeshpur VDC, Dadeldhura, has tied the nuptial knot in the hope of having a son.

Gopal Bahadur Malla, 86, got married with Kalapati recently in the Far Western mountain district.

Malla said that he married thrice but none of his sons survived. “I got married at this old age only to have a son to carry forward my lineage,” he added.

Though the villagers advised him to marry earlier, he postponed it due to fears of social backlash.

“I am now feeling nervous due to our huge age difference,” he added.

Still, he sounded like happy man who had come to love his new wife.

“By god’s grace I have got such a good wife. I still feel I have a few years left in me,” he chirped.

His wife Kalapati, 43 years younger than him, accepted the union as a compromise.

She said, “I am happy with this marriage as I have got social and financial security.” His three others wives did not complain about the fourth  marriage. Rather, they supported it.

His third wife said that had sons born of them survived, Malla would not have got married. “Without son there would be no salvation for us. We are happy with his decision,” she said.
